i’d heard rumours of a magical, ancient cypress swamp in a not-too-far-away town, and imagined that it would be the perfect place for a romantic weeknight picnic. i obviously wasn’t thinking clearly, since cypress swamps are known to be muggy and mosquito-infested, but it just seemed like such an adventure, i knew we had to do it anyway. i told boone we were going on a secret date, and that I was packing a picnic, and told him to be home by 5:30. he was totally bewildered, but got home in time last monday night to change clothes and help me load the car with the picnic basket. this is what we found:
when we were finished being amazed by the 1,000 year old trees, walking through the swamp on the boardwalk, and getting devoured by hungry mosquitoes we sat down for our picnic. my dearest friend, kathryn, and her honey, ryan, had given us the rad picnic basket filled with supplies… reusable plastic silverware shaped like actual silver, pretty tin plates, a roll of cloth napkins (yes, a ROLL of them)… things like that… and this was our chance to finally christen them. we chowed down on sweets from a great local bakery, and all the picnic foods i could round up (potato salad, pasta salad, pimiento cheese and crackers, coleslaw, hummus, and a new local-ish IPA). all in all, it was a fun afternoon get-away.
Yay! Looks like a wonderful picnic, and I'm so glad you were able to use our wedding/2nd-anniversary gift!
next time you visit, we'll go out there and recreate it.
this looks AWESOME!
