Are y’all watching the National Football Championship?!?
ermm.. probably not if you’re reading MoG, but YOU SHOULD BE if you’re a real southerner. I mean Clemson AND Alabama? C’mon.
As a born-and-raised Mississippi girl, I’ve gotta cheer for the SEC tonight (ROLL TIDE!) but my honey is a ACC guy all the way. Tonight would probably be contentious except I really only watch football as a social thing. (I am like 90% sure that a bunch of other southerners feel the same way but are too scared of the super intense football fans to say so. But I’ll say it. “Meh.”)
Which brings me to what I wanted to share with y’all..
The Seatheater. It’s something I concocted today (accidentally) while trying to recreate the old-time warm Whiskey Flip. It’s something warm and comforting that lands somewhere between that whiskey flip I was trying to make, milk punch, and eggnog, but it has it’s own little toasty orange twist from a drop of Gran Marnier. Whether your team wins or loses tonight, I’d consider whipping one up during halftime… that way your head and heart (and most importantly, your seat) will stay warm no matter the outcome OR the temperatures.
The Seatwarmer
Serves 1
Weight Watchers Points: 9 (I know)
What you need:
A satsuma or tangerine (for garnish)
A small double glass
1 oz steamed heavy cream (or whole milk)
1 1/2 oz Bourbon
1 oz Gran Marnier (you could probably use Triple SEC here and still have a winner… get it? Triple S.E.C.?)
1 beaten & whipped egg white
1 teaspoon Agave syrup
What to do:
Start by steaming your cream/milk. I made two of these at once, so I just put my milk in a double boiler and warmed it until it was lightly boiling (a rolling boil here is BAD. you’ll end up with cottage cheese)
While that’s happening, use your emulsion blender or regular blender. (What?? You don’t have an emulsion blender yet? seriously? Go get one tomorrow. Or order it on amazon now. Seriously.) to whip your egg white. You don’t need a “stiff peak” here, but you’ll want it to be nice and fluffy. Once it’s there, add in the liquor and the agave. Continue to whip with your blender, and slowly pour in the steamed milk little by little. This is a bit like custard making here, in that you could end up with scrambled egg if you’re not careful. Blend a bit more until everything is lovely and frothy, then pour it into a glass and serve with a dash of nutmeg and a wedge of orange. You won’t be sorry. Even if your team loses.
